Principal Investigator
Principal Investigator's Name:
Patrick J. Brown
E-mail:
pb2410@columbia.edu
Institution:
College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University
Department:
Division of Geriatric Psychiatry
Country:
Proposed Analysis:
Objective 1: To identify the neuropsychological and neuroimaging correlates to functional impairment (FAQ) in individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment, and to compare them to Alzheimer???s disease patients and controls. Objective 2: To identify the individual FAQ items that distinguish the three diagnostic groups, and that are associated with the degree of neuropsychological deficits in tests of memory, verbal fluency, and executive function. This project will be undertaken by Drs. Brown and Devanand continuing a line of research based on previous findings on the functional impairment of patients with MCI conducted in the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at Columbia University (Tabert et al., Functional deficits in patients with mild cognitive impairment: Prediction of AD. Neurology 2002; 758-764), and relates to a new article in press by Landau et al. (2009) in Neurobiology of Aging. Baseline evaluation data from the ADNI database only will be analyzed for this paper. Variables: Clinical/Behavioral Variables of Interest: Demographics (Education, Age, Gender, Ethnicity) Subjective Memory Complaints (Patient and Informant) APOE MMSE total score Logical Memory I and II raw and scaled scores Category Fluency raw and scaled scores Trails A & B raw scores and scaled scores Boston Naming Test raw and scaled scores GDS-15 total score ADAS-Cog total score CDR FAQ item scores and total scores Neuroimaging Variables of Interest: MRI: Hippocampal Volume Entorhinal cortex Volume Intracranial Volume PET (FDG PET): Parietal Flow Temporal Flow Global Flow
