LONI: Laboratory of Neuro Imaging

LONI Grants Interaction Chart

Grant Name Grant Components Grant Interactions
CCB Grant CCB, Core 2 Details Interacts with LONIR and Tools:

LONIR is a resource for neuroscience collaborations. The algorithms consist solely of classical or more widely accepted techniques (Euler-Lagrange optimization, random processes, continuum mechanics, signal processing). Whereas the mathematical methods employed in CCB research are more 21st century and exotic (level sets, harmonic analysis, conformal parameterization, Monte-Carlo Markov Chains, genetic ACE modeling, ReML, etc.)

For the complete details see the CCB ? LONIR Interaction Matrix Document.

CCB Core 2 ? Tools Interaction

The Tools-for-Sharing grant is for collaborative work/sharing initiative, whereas the CCB Core 2 efforts build the framework required and implement the computational strategies that are needed for the DBP's within the CCB. The CCB has a focus on providing tools to independent investigators (the DBP's) rather than multi-site collaborations (Tools-for-Sharing).
CCB Grant CCB Driving Biological Project 1 Details CCB Driving Biological Project 1 has no interactions.
CCB Grant CCB Driving Biological Project 2 Details Interacts with NLM, ADNI & ICBM:

NLM provides the structural and cryotomographic foundation to AD atlas construction to CCB Core 3 DBP2 which is used for a common space for analyzing AD data. DBP2 provides functional atlas components and temporal measures of change to augment the structural components of the NLM atlas.

ADNI uses the NLM cryo atlas to do volumetric studies on a large scale. ADNI feeds back to DBP 2 data for continuous refinement of the atlases and provides a framework for investigating structural changes on large number of subjects.

Probabilistic atlases of aging and demented brains (ICBM) are augmenting, compared to and validated against the various population specific aging atlases developed as part of the DBP 2, e.g., HIV-AIDS-AD.
CCB Grant CCB Driving Biological Project 3 Details Interacts with OIS and MouseBIRN

MouseBIRN provides Grid computing and SRB (storage resource broker) database management.

CCB DBP-3 provides neuroanatomical and neurogenetic atlases to MouseBIRN. CCB DBP-3 uses MouseBIRN infrastructure for computing, dissemination and databasing. Immunohistochemicall maps provided as part of CCB DBP-3 become integral component of the multimodal mouse brain atlas developed in LONI.
CCB Grant CCB Driving Biological Project 4 Details Interacts with CCB Core 2
Uses tools developed as part of the CCB Core 2 to represent and analyze the imaging data.

Feeds back to Core 2 results to fine-tune the image processing algorithms and design more robust data analysis protocols.

Tools For Sharing Grant Tools For Sharing Grant Details Interacts with CCB Core 2.

The Tools-for-Sharing grant is for a wide collaborative work/sharing initiative, whereas the CCB Core 2 efforts build the framework required and implement the computational strategies that are needed for the DBP's within the CCB. The CCB has a focus on providing tools to independent investigators (the DBP's) rather than multi-site collaborations (Tools-for-Sharing).
OIS Grant OIS Grant Details Interacts with MouseBIRN and CCB DBP-3:

Provides functional findings to MouseBIRN to augment MouseBIRN?s structural atlases. Utilizes MouseBIRN?s visualizational framework for data display and analysis of rodent data. MouseBIRN also provides Grid computing and SRB (storage resource broker) database management.

The CCB DBP-3 may utilize the optical depression spreading models and functional studies in understanding the effects of demyelination on MS and EAE.
MouseBIRN Grant MouseBIRN Grant Details Interacts with CCB DBP-3 and OIS:

MouseBIRN provides Grid computing and SRB (storage resource broker) database management for OIS data.

CCB DBP-3 provides neuroanatomical and neurogenetic atlases to MouseBIRN. CCB DBP-3 uses MouseBIRN infrastructure for computing, dissemination and databasing. Immunohistochemicall maps provided as part of CCB DBP-3 become integral component of the multimodal mouse brain atlas developed by OIS and MouseBIRN.
ICBM Grant ICBM Grant Details Interacts with NLM and CCB DBP2:

Construction and utilization of anatomical probabilistic atlases of the normal (young adult) brain, ICBM, are contrasted, augmented and validated with the AD population based probabilistic structural and functional atlases of the AD brain, NLM/CCB.
NLM Grant NLM Details Interacts with CCB Core 3 DBP2, ADNI & ICBM:

Provides the structural and cryotomographic foundation of AD atlas construction to CCB Core 3 DBP2. The latter one feeds back functional atlas components and temporal measures of change to NLM.

ADNI uses the NLM structural atlas to do volumetric studies on a large scale. ADNI feeds back to NLM data for continuous refinement of the deterministic and probabilistic structural atlases.

Probabilistic atlases of aging and demented brains (ICBM) are augmenting. compared to and validated against the cryo structural atlases developed as part of the NLM.
ADNI Grant ADNI Informatics Core Details Interacts with NLM & CCB Core 3 DBP2:
NLM provides the structural and cryotomographic foundation to AD atlas construction which is used in ADNI as a common space for analyzing AD data. DBP2 provides complementary functional atlas components and temporal measures of change to augment the structural components of the NLM atlas. Together these three projects deliver a probabilistic brain atlas of the aging brain in 4D.

ADNI uses the NLM structural atlas to do volumetric studies on a large scale. ADNI feeds back to DBP 2 data for continuous refinement of the atlases and provides a framework for investigating structural changes on large number of subjects.
LONIR Grant LONI Resource Details LONIR mainly interacts with the CCB:

The main difference between CCB and LONIR is that CCB is producing more broadly applicable methods, while LONIR is focused on specific aspects of brain imaging analysis. The LONIR is applied brain mapping research. CCB is basic science with matching computational tools: The CCB center will:
  • Further expand our computational framework using Grid and Network computing
  • Design a new graphical data processing environment
  • Introduce an integrated data storage, tracking and retrieval system
  • Increase the amount and quality of the collaborative projects and tools we distribute to the community
Algorithms and tools already developed by the LONI Resource (P41/NCRR) project will be generalized and extended to any dimension, data type and/or design protocol.

Previously introduced mathematical algorithms for volume representation, feature extraction and visualization will be supplemented (in CCB) by designing software for their testing and validation. In the CCB center we are developing advanced level-sets, mixture-modeling and wavelets based mathematical techniques for robust and efficient modeling and analysis of data obtained from various imaging, genetics and neurobiological sources.

See the detailed CCB ? LONIR Interaction Matrix Document.
NAMIC Grant NAMIC Details Interacts with CCB:

NAMIC /CCB collaborative research provides the foundation for integrating the Pipeline, and all tools distributed as part of the Pipeline, into the more general biomedical computing community. It also makes the ITK/VTK libraries accessible to many CCB tools via native method calls.
