CCB > Glossary > Disease

The study of neurodegenerative diseases has been aided by new imaging technologies. Due to imaging, there is a greater ability to distinguish between different types of dementia such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD), Vascular Dementia, Dementia with Lewy Bodies, and frontotemporal lobar degeneration such as Pick's Disease.

Imaging studies have also been done on basal ganglia disorders such as Huntington's and Parkinson's disease.

Due to the non-invasive nature of imaging it is well suited to study neurodevelopmental diseases such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism. Future advances in imaging will improve the diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of these various diseases.
