Fluid Warp Protocol
Overview
Many neurological analyses use a sophisticated fluid warp
to map into a common reference system the brain structure
surfaces being studied. The Shape Tools fluid warp protocol
described here is similiar to this original work. Use of the
ShapeTools library, the Java language, the original protocol's users experiences
allow the ShapeTools implementation
to offer an alternative to the original methods whose results will
be comparable. Changes in the algorithms used will cause small
differences between the results of this protocol, and the original.
Features of the ShapeTools fluid warp protocol
- Fewer intermediate files.
- Fewer application programs.
- Topology aware averaging programs prevent fiducial lines from "falling off".
- Java based applications are portable to many computers, including the Loni GRID engine.
- Recent advances in PDE solution techniques (multigrid) greatly speed the calculations.
- Support for more file formats (due to use of ShapeTools library).
Planned features (not yet implemented)
- Accessible as a LONI Pipeline data flow.
- Improved data file formats retain coordinate value precision
- The applications used in this protocol are available from the LONI Software distribution system.
