For many diseases, laboratory animals can be used for postmortem research studies. But there are still a number of neurological and psychiatry diseases which affects only human beings. Neurological tissue from patients afflicted with these disorders, as well as control tissues from spouses or other family members is ESSENTIAL for research studies devoted to finding treatments and cures. The Center provides specimens to users for research exploring various avenues of as yet unrealized areas of problems related to neuropsychiatric diseases and disoreders. Scientists without a clinical practice can make their contributions to biomedical research by using the Center's readily available, numerous, high ulaity banked specimens. The Center offers a collection of specimens that make longitudinal studies as well as cross-secitnal studies possible. This provides researchers with a reliable and valid retrospective set of samples of a patient that spans the progression of their disease over time. The Center provides a continuous boost to biomedical research by helping scientists help patients. It provides researchers with the higheset quality and quantity of pre- and post-mortem brains, spinal cords, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), serum, blood cells and urine to use in their investigations of neurological and psychiatric diseases. By applying a wide variety of standardized research methods, scientists can test their hypotheses utilizing the specimens provided by the Center. |
